One Last Day
The house is all packed (mostly). The truck is here. Tomorrow we take off to our new/old hometown.
Pardon my absence tomorrow while I'm off having the third best day of my life! Pin It

Home and it's Wonderful Terrible Problems
There are all kinds of things wrong with our new home, but we take them all on gladly.
It needs a ton of work on the inside to make it feel like a real home for us, but when you start with a shell like this, how can you go wrong?
We were able to do a final walk-through over the weekend and got to see everything again and see if it was all just as we'd remembered it. I had a great time getting some quick photos around the property in the peak of Summer and (bonus!) the rooms all seemed much bigger and brighter than what we remembered.
We are thrilled. Can't wait.
Let me show you around!
This is the Summer view from right out the front door. That's a real honest-to-goodness wheat field in all it's golden glory.
There's my (already) beloved barn out across the creek.
And a corn field! All I really wanted was to have a house with a cornfield behind it. Of course next year it will be soy because of crop rotation and all that, but still... let me have this.
Chris and I were able to ditch the real estate agent for a few minutes and we took a walk around the property and along the corn field. He showed me how to de-tassel the corn like he used to do when he worked in the fields growing up. Is it completely strange that I found that kinda romantic?
This is looking across the street down at the end of the property; what will be our orchard area. Another cool barn!
Inside I took a few quick shots of some things that caught my eye. They didn't turn out so great. The real estate agent was wondering why I was taking so many pictures with just a week to go until move-in day, I think.
The dining room archways... and that horrifying ceiling.
The banister.
The upstairs hallway.
Some great trim and some not-so-great trim.
Looking into the kitchen. Lots of room for a GIANT table!
And this was our fun discovery of the day:
Chris noticed the floorboards under the oldest part of the house while we were in the basement.
They look pretty interesting from here. I wonder how they'll look from the top once we get all that peel and stick tile off of every. single. floor. in the house.
So you can see there are a lot of horrible, ugly, back-breaking problems that we'll have to deal with all over this house, but to tell you the truth, I'm feeling pretty grateful for every one of them.
Almost there!

Suburbia
Where we've been living, deep in the heart of Suburbia, is pretty much the exact opposite of the small town, country lifestyle we're about to undertake. Still, Suburbia has it's high points.
I like to go for walks in the evening through a neighborhood one block over, where the houses are a little bigger, the grass is a little greener, and everything is just a little more perfect. I thought I'd take you on a little tour as a tribute to this neighborhood I've enjoyed so much.
As you walk a little further down the path, you start to see the tops of the houses. These are just your typical upper middle class look-alike houses.
As you walk down the streets, here's what you see.
All the houses are very well-cared for.
All the houses have neatly trimmed gardens.
If you find yourself on a walk here in the evening, you'll see that everyday at exactly 7pm, all the neighbors come out to put on their sprinklers.
I often feel like I might just see the opening credits of some family comedy movie start to roll by me as I walk down these streets.
After I walk by the houses, I like to make my way to the pond located right behind them.
We've been coming down here for years to see all kinds of birds in the early Summer mornings, and for skating in the Winter.
That's a lot of pictures of a pond, I know, but with a setting like that, how can I stop?
That brings our little tour to a close! Hope you enjoyed yourself.
Please exit to your right, through the gift shop, and have a great day! Pin It

Come on! Let's go!
My street is connected to this street we're about to tour by a path through a little ravine area.

How the Summers Will Be
As if having a beautiful country property on which to live out the rest of our days isn't enough...
My mother-in-law has a little place right on the beach, just a short drive away from our new house.
This is how we'll spend our Summers.
How did we ever get so lucky? Pin It

One Week
Today we'll be driving to our new hometown of Chatham to see the lawyer, walk through our new house, and spend a few days at the beach, just a short drive away.
I can't help but notice that today there's just....
I also just wanted to take a moment and thank all my new followers for the lovely comments they've left. My new little blog is already off to a great start! Pin It

Setting the Stage
I've shared some of these photos on my old blog before, when we were going through the home inspection stage of buying our house, but I thought I might just show off a bit again for any newbies out there.
So this is where the magic will happen:
So this is where the magic will happen:
The view from the back yard.
Looking in the other direction.
The old garage with the cool sliding door.
The winding staircase that needs to be completely re-done.
The front entryway. Also needing a lot of work. The aqua paint color is kinda in style right now though....
We just found out that we'll be able to do a walk through the house tomorrow while we're in town seeing our lawyer, which we did not expect at all. Bonus!
We're also going to have some more amazing weather this weekend, so we can't very well not go to the lake, right?
I'll be back on Monday with all the updates!

Every Story Begins Somewhere
Here's where the story of how we came to live in our house starts.
Well, no, I guess it starts back about a year ago when we decided to leave our life in the big city behind and move our little family of three back to my husband Chris's hometown. Then there's the part where we bought the big ol' farmhouse out in the country, right near Gramma's house so our 6-year-old daughter Kennedy can see her everyday if she likes.
But now's the fun part; the part where we move in and get to work tearing apart walls, uncovering history and renovating our own home exactly how we want it, just for us. It's about a simpler life, adventures in the country, and creating roots for ourselves and future members of our family.
